In just a few weeks, trucks will begin arriving at slaughterhouses in Yulin, China. On the trucks will be dogs and cats, frightened, thirsty and crammed so tightly into cages they can barely move. All to be slaughtered for someone's dinner.
Many animals are stolen from back yards or are stray animals snatched from the streets. Some will still be wearing collars. They’ll be transported for days in scorching heat, soiled with waste, exhausted and terrified. Many will not survive the journey.
Those who do will be pulled from cages with iron tongs and violently restrained. They’ll be beaten unconscious and have their throats cut, and left to die, enduring suffering no animal should experience.
This brutal trade is inconsistent with the Chinese public’s growing concern about animal welfare and public health. Stopping the slaughter of dogs and cats in Yulin and across China once and for all would protect both people and animals.
