Dear, This is the true story of what I saw, although I didn’t know his name was Cash when I first saw him: Cash peers out from an inadequate, open-fronted, plastic doghouse in the driving rain, his thin body trembling. A heavy, tangled metal chain tethers him to a nearby tree, confining him to a patch of muddy, trash-strewn ground. When I call to him, Cash hesitates, then takes a few stiff steps. I run my hand over his frail frame, and there’s so little of him there—just sharp bones protruding beneath thin skin. He nuzzles into me, clearly desperate for comfort. No dog should ever have to live this way. |
Cid Marcos, my team at PETA helps dogs like Cash every day—and we need your support to keep this vital work going strong. Will you please join us for the next rescue by rushing an emergency care package to a sorely neglected or abused dog? |
I’m the PETA fieldworker who found Cash trapped at the end of a heavy, tangled chain—starving but unable to free himself to search for food, with only dirty floodwater to drink and no way to escape the bitter cold or to stay dry. Cash was chronically starved—severely neglected by the person who by law should have cared for him. He should have weighed at least 50 to 60 pounds, but he weighed just 29. The chain holding him captive weighed 10 pounds—more than a third of his body weight. PETA’s fieldworkers like me are there for animals with no other hope whatsoever: victims of abuse, sick and injured animals, and dogs like Cash who’ve spent their lives watching the world pass them by from barren backyards—but we can’t do it without you. |
Here’s how you can help a dog today: |
Thanks to our compassionate supporters, we rescued Cash. Our team removed that chain from his neck, lifted him out of the mud, and rushed him for emergency care. He was dangerously underweight and suffering from parasites, heartworm disease, and anemia. At our headquarters, Cash curled up on a soft bed—safe, dry, and finally able to rest. We reported Cash’s former owner to authorities, and just weeks ago, he was arraigned on a criminal charge of cruelty to animals. When he was booked, he was found to have a tattoo that read, “Money over bitches.” That may give you some idea of why this poor dog was called Cash. We’re pushing for this man to be held accountable, and we need you with us, for Cash and for other dogs we find who are still living in misery. |
Thank you for helping us reach the next dog before it’s too late. |
Kind regards, ![]() Katherine Sullivan |
