Dear, The veterinarian at Red Beast Enterprises called what he did to Bo “taking a little bite.” He shoved forceps down Bo’s throat and cut into his vocal cords—all so his cries of distress and loneliness wouldn’t disturb workers at the Colorado laboratory. After the mutilation, Bo was dumped back into the barren kennel that was his entire world, without even a dog bed or blanket for comfort. He grew old and weak, lying on the hard tile floor. By the time he was 11, he struggled to walk on stiff, bowed legs and was mocked as “falling apart.” |

A PETA investigator found more than 100 beagles and nearly 30 cats confined in squalid, windowless rooms at Red Beast, a contract laboratory that tests drugs, chemicals, and other products for any company willing to pay. Every dog had been “debarked” in a crude attempt to quiet them—yet their frantic, hoarse barking was still deafeningly loud. Even after all that was done to him, Bo still wagged his tail when he saw PETA’s investigator. She pleaded to adopt Bo but was told that he would never be allowed to leave there. Other dogs and cats were left to suffer without adequate care. A beagle named Holt endured chronic skin inflammation and hair loss—but was denied the routine treatment he needed. Kegan had an eye ulcer that the veterinarian said would leave a human “writhing on the floor in pain,” but she was given no pain relief. |

Following PETA’s complaint and evidence, federal veterinarians inspected Red Beast and cited the facility for 200 examples of violations of the Animal Welfare Act. Now, we’re urging authorities to seize all animals imprisoned in this hellhole. Thanks to our dedicated donors, PETA has shut down laboratories like Red Beast before—and with your help, we can do it again. These dogs and cats deserve to live in loving homes with caring families. You are their best hope. |
