Action Alert Dear, Today, January 25, is El Riad Shrine Potentate Mark Richard’s birthday. Let’s send him our wish that this is the year he’ll make his Shrine circus animal-free! While Richard gets to celebrate his birthday however he chooses, the elephants who are forced to perform in the El Riad Shrine Circus are denied any semblance of a natural life. The notorious Carden family often supplies an elderly elephant named Betty (above) for the circus, even though she has spent over fifty years being forced to perform demeaning tricks under the constant threat of violence. As Richard grows older, let’s push him to grow wiser, too. Please take the steps below to urge Richard to end the use of animals at all El Riad Shrine events: Send Mark Richard a birthday e-mail asking him to leave animals out of circuses. Politely comment on El Riad Shrine’s Instagram and Facebook. Urge other Shrine clubs to end their animal circuses.
