Every year, dogs suffer painful injuries and battle extreme weather conditions in Alaska’s deadly Iditarod dogsled race. During the 2024 race alone, more than 200 dogs had to be pulled off the trail because they were too injured, ill, or exhausted to go on, and three dogs were forced to run so fast and so hard that they collapsed and died. This suffering is entirely preventable, yet Providence, a Catholic healthcare organization, continues to allow Providence Alaska Medical Center to sponsor it. |
