Dear , |
A new PETA Asia investigation reveals what goats endure on “responsible” and “humane” mohair farms in South Africa and Lesotho. Despite learning that one of its mohair suppliers is implicated in this cruelty, British fashion house Paul Smith has refused to drop mohair from its suits and apparel. |

PETA Asia investigators documented that workers violently struck goats with brooms and poles; dragged them by their horns, legs, ears, and fleece; and pinned them to the ground while the terrified animals screamed. Shearers worked so quickly and carelessly that many goats were left bleeding from deep, painful cuts. One goat suffered from a large, gaping wound—reportedly from a jackal attack—yet workers shorn the animal anyway. At another certified mohair facility, investigators found emaciated goats and the bodies of several dead goats, including a baby, discarded in a heap. |

This investigation follows PETA’s first exposé of South Africa’s mohair industry, which captured shearers cutting broad swaths of skin off goats and crudely stitching up gaping wounds on filthy shearing floors without any pain relief. These investigations make it clear that cruelty is systemic throughout the mohair industry, regardless of certifications like the Responsible Mohair Standard. Please help us urge Paul Smith to drop mohair entirely. |

Thank you for your compassion for animals and willingness to take action. |
