NUTRICIOUSLY

Hi there plant muncher,

Have you been wanting to go fully plant-based or vegan but feel like this one thing is always holding you back… cheese.

On sandwiches, pizza, casseroles, or just snacking plates – you cannot work your way around it for good. Not just because it’d be too hard to ask for a cheese-free dish but because you feel so drawn to it. Sounds familiar?

We’ve been there, too. For most people, cheese is the last and hardest item to let go off in order to have a diet free from animal products.

And this is no coincidence! As cheese digests, it produces mild opiates called casomorphins which have an opioid effect on your brain and keep you coming back for more.

But, there IS a life after cheese… and today we want to share with you how to arrive there.

3 Steps to Fighting Cheese Addiction
Let’s start with this great resource by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. It breaks down in 3 simple steps why you really want to kick the cheese habit, how to change your taste buds to stop craving this food and ultimately find good alternatives.
The president of this organization, Dr. Neal Barnard, has recently written a great book on this topic which is featured in our top 40 list here:
Delicious Cheesy Meals
You won’t believe the fully plant-based cheesy meals you can create at home with just very simple, everyday ingredients.

Not only are they lower in fat than actual cheese, they hardly have any saturated fat and are totally free from cholesterol (see how dairy may even cause cancer in our article here)
.

We’re talking creamy Mac’n’Cheese or even a Veggie Lasagna that totally hits the spot while being incredibly healthy at the same time!

If you like, there are also plenty of vegan cheese alternatives at many grocery stores – look out for brands like Daiya, Kite Hill, Follow Your Heart, Tofutti, or Violife (depending on your country, of course).
Make Your Own Vegan Cheese at Home
Lastly, how about creating delicious (and even healthier!) nut cheeses at home? It’s much easier than you might think. These 25 vegan cheese recipes will help you quit dairy for good
We hope to have given you helpful sources that’ll enable you to create a new habit.

It definitely helps to remind yourself why you want to go fully plant-based - be it for the wellbeing of animals, the planet, or your own health.
Wishing you so much fun with creating some vegan cheezy goodness! Feel free to share in our Facebook group how you managed to transition away from dairy cheese for good.
